Celebrating LGBT+ Pride Month: A Discovery List

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, which was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. This month-long celebration demonstrates how LGBTQ Americans have strengthened our country, by using our talent and creativity to help create awareness and goodwill. You can learn more about the history and purpose behind Pride Month through the Library of Congress and get some ideas for how to celebrate through the Human Rights Campaign. One of the ways we are celebrating LGBT+ pride month at the Peabody Institute Library of Danvers is through this Discovery List of books and films for all age ranges that celebrate some of the diverse aspects of LGBT+ history and community.
