Lisa Bucco Memorial Fund

Lisa Bucco worked at the Peabody Institute Library for 15 years. She passed away in March, 2021 at age 62 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Lisa is missed by her husband, Robert, as well as her children and her many friends and co-workers at the library.

Prior to joining the library, Lisa was a beloved kindergarten teacher and elementary school substitute at St. Mary’s School in Danvers – so she arrived with an established fan base, making her a favorite of both parents and kids in the Eleanor Day Children’s Room! Hired in 2006 as an Assistant Librarian, she worked in all departments of the library. She especially loved her work in the Children’s Room. She was hired as the full time Youth Services Librarian in 2014, then promoted to Assistant Head of Children’s Services in 2017.

One of Lisa’s proudest work accomplishments was establishing our children’s bilingual Spanish & English collection and the collection of Wonderbooks. Those collections were her baby, so to speak. She put a lot of time and thought into what items to add to it, how to arrange it to make it visible and appealing, and made the bookmarks and such to promote it. You can find a memorial bookplate for Lisa inside many of the items in this collection.

Lisa championed the creation of the ever-popular LEGO Club, which was an instant success. Many years later, it still draws a consistent full house of children eager to build and create. In Lisa’s memory, her friends and family would like to establish the Lisa Bucco Memorial Fund in order to memorialize her with a sculpture of a cardinal, made entirely of LEGOs by local artist Rob Surette to display in the Children’s Room.

Lisa’s memory and influence will live on long into the future in the Children’s Room at the Peabody Institute Library of Danvers.
