Sarah Reviews: The Music of What Happens – Bill Konigsberg

Life doesn’t always give us what we want, but it often gives us what we need without our realization that what we need might be right in front of our faces. For Max that might mean Coq au Vinny, a failing food truck, run by Jordan and his melodramatic mother, Lydia. And Max might be just what Jordan needs to pull him out from the grief of losing his father and the stress of trying to support his family. The Music of What Happens by Bill Konigsberg explores the lives of two teens from Arizona whose personalities could not be more different, and yet despite everything they find everything they never knew they needed in each other.

This heartwarming story reads like a romantic comedy, something the LGBTQ community never gets enough of and is very much appreciated by this reader, and I’m sure many others. Bill Konigsberg, author of Honestly Ben and Openly Straight has once again gifted the literary world with a YA book that can be enjoyed by both teens and adults regardless of their orientation. If these novels are anything to go by, I can say confidently that the world will be a much better place with Bill Konigsberg continuing to write for the LGBTQ voice.

So, if you find yourself in need of a book to read while enjoying the beautiful Spring weather, look no further than The Music of What Happens by Bill Konigsberg.
